I was at the Huber weigh off. I had two of the smallest pumpkins there. I knew I would have the smallest ones but i was determined to have something to show. My plants died like so many here in southern IN this year.
First of all Brad and Jim are first class guys. They should not personally be attacked. The IPGA put on a great event.
Toms pumpkin was HUGE!!! I saw it when they moved it out of the van and put it in the row with the rest of the pumpkins. Tom insisted it be covered up. so there was a blanket over it. then after awhile it was moved to a shady spot. I dont know who asked for it to be moved , but it was covered up there also. with a few minutes to weigh off someone asked him to uncover it. Tom didnt want to but after awile he did. he said he didnt want it to loose weight.
I was there the entire time his pumpkin was moved . I beleive his pumpkin could have been picked up with the lift that picked up the rest of them had he wanted to use it.
The pumpkin leaked as it was sitting on the scale, not after the lift to place the pumkin back on the tarp. I know because it was running between my feet.
the tarp that Tom's pumpkin was sitting on was very wet as if it had been leaking for a while.
Everyone handled Toms pumpkin with the utmost care. it was never dropped or mishandled.
I also saw the inside of Toms pumpkin. Tom was pointing out where the rot was and where it leaked. Brad was there also but Brad is a good guy and I am sure he doesnt want to go into details about why he made his decision but this has to weigh into it.
Toms Pumpkin was a great pumpkin and I wish it was a record. I have nothing to gain or lose by saying this but it was rotten.
should the record stay??? I will leave that up to you all. But, to all the growers that were there, the concensus is that it was not legit.
