Hi Curt,
Did you guys have anything under the pumpkin or was it sitting on the ground? A lot of people use a lot of different things to sit the pumpkin on, depends on whats available locally. I use styrofoam covered with about 4 inches of sand under my pumpkins and so far has worked well. Some people use plywood and many other things. The sand is great to use though. It drains water away from the fruit but also lets it slide as it grows.
