RE: record

Go to the weigh-off regardless of where you finish in the standings. You'll
not regret it. The camaraderie with new friends is worth the pumpkins weight
in gold.

Hi all- does any one know what the record is for the first year
grower? Should I even bother bringing my specimen to the weigh off if
it is not in the neighborhood of the record? I want to go to the weigh
off to meet the growers in my area but if my giant is only really an
accomplishment in my own mind- I think it best to do a raffle for a
good cause. What are the rules really- How does one determine first
year grower status? Is it once I officially weigh off and are we on
our honor to let people know we have been trying and have waited to
enter a sanctioned contest once we know we have a chance or the year
we purchased membership into a club? Not sure- I really want to meet
the people and observe the whats, whys and maybes of Giant Pumpkin
growing.
Secondly, my stem seems to be getting a bit soft where it meets the
vine- the vine seems to be healthy- does anyone have any ideas as to
why this may be?
Thanks, Bridgette
