Re: record

I have no idea what the record is. I know the 1156 Larsen was a first year
grower but beyond that I don't know. The real question is why would you care? I
suspect you have grown the biggest pumpkin you have ever grown. That should
be all the counts. You have learned a lot a valuable information and no doubt
have the skills to grow bigger next year. You may not grow bigger next year
there are too many variables involved. Enjoy the ride from planting the seed
to taking the bow at end of the season. In my book the most important record
is your personal best.
The admission to the weighoff may be free but consider your pumpkin your
ticket to get to talk and meet all the growers. GO, take your pumpkin and be
proud of what you have grown even if it comes in last place it.

Hi all- does any one know what the record is for the first year
grower? Should I even bother bringing my specimen to the weigh off if
it is not in the neighborhood of the record? I want to go to the weigh
off to meet the growers in my area but if my giant is only really an
accomplishment in my own mind- I think it best to do a raffle for a
good cause. What are the rules really- How does one determine first
year grower status? Is it once I officially weigh off and are we on
our honor to let people know we have been trying and have waited to
enter a sanctioned contest once we know we have a chance or the year
we purchased membership into a club? Not sure- I really want to meet
the people and observe the whats, whys and maybes of Giant Pumpkin
growing.
Secondly, my stem seems to be getting a bit soft where it meets the
vine- the vine seems to be healthy- does anyone have any ideas as to
why this may be?
Thanks, Bridgette
