That whole show was fantastic! The growers, their personalities, and some of the funny things that we do. "The ring of death..." lol. Anyone who hasn't seen this DVD should see it. Hopefully PBS will run it again this fall, but if not, get the DVD.

Remember Bernie?

One of my favorite parts (not a happy part) is when Craig Lemke's fruit is to be weighed. Everyone is on pins and needles because it has a shot to be a new world record. Then silence. The poor guy doing the emcee duty, stammers for a bit, and then says, "I don't know what to say." No, it's not a happy part, but a truer representation of this pursuit has probably never been recorded.

Come to think of it, PBS needs to run it again because this time I could watch it in high def. -Cliff

Ron,
Ironic enough, I was one of the growers that was featured, I was the grower
that bought his wife a new van in exchange for more patch space...LOL!
PBS followed us for a few days in our patches and then on the way to the
weigh off, it was a riot.

Several years ago I saw a very entertaining and interesting documentary film on PBS TV which followed several giant pumpkin growers through their season
of
growing giant pumpkins. That film got me interested in the hobby and this
year I have been able to grow a few large pumpkins in my community garden
plots in Los Angeles. Everyone in my garden is coming around to see the big
pumpkins (estimated at 150 lbs) and I have been asked to write a few
paragraphs for our newsletter. I have been trying to remember the name of
the
film. Perhaps someone on this list would know of the film?

Thanks for any information on the film.
