Re: count down to harvest

Thanks Debbie, pretty good ride. I get to MO a couple of times a year. Still
have a house in Springfield. My Grandfather had a farm there. I 've only grown
pumpkins in FL and CT. not Mo yet. Good luck at your weigh-off!

debbie,
 never used a lifting ring
il last year and we will
ad a 1000
ounder
y hand in a 3 weeks. this is
hat has helped us
er the years.
1. if you have any kind of slope or hill in
he yard that
u can
ack the
ruck up to, use the slope so you do not have to
ift
 high.
2. we take two 2"x10" planks of wood about 8 or 10' long and
lace them
ide by side on the tail gait to the ground. this will be the
sting
latform.
3. make sure all trip[ hazards are out of the way. all
nes,
ords,
nything that could blow out a knee or ankle.
4. get 2
ople on tarp
uty. take 2 or 3, 4 how many it takes on
ne side
nd
gin to lift, roll and
alance the pumpkin on the opposite side
f
ifting. the 2 people on tarp dut
osition the tarp under the
umkin with
ne
nd folded like a curtain. slowly
ase the pumpkin back down. now
o the
ame thing with rolling it, then have
he 2 people on tarp duty on
old and
stretch out the tarp. ease back down
ently. have everone
ap
andles of
he tarp and start centering it to the
iddle by
iding and
uilling.
5. take a breath.
6. make sure pallet in
ck
f truck has slots pointed the right way
or
orklift or skidsteer
rks. put
tyrofome on the pallet and
ushions on top
of that. i use
d thick couch
ushions.
7. now the fun part. slowly lift and walk it to
e trcuk. easy. set
t
own when needed. get it to the planks of wood
ading up the tail
ate.
ituate the 2 or 3 strongest shortest pople
 the truck. the
thers lift
nd
lowly let it rest on the planks
d keep working it up to the
ailgate.
hen
his is the big lift
me up and ontop of the cushions. the most
angerous
ime to blow a
ee or ankle so do it in unison with one person
iving
rders.
.
ke another breat. laugh pop a cold beer and strap it down...not
o
ghtly.
9. attach some bags or milk containers of water to the vines you
eft
n on
oth sides of the stem if everything is rot free and they are
ill
apable of sucking in water.
10. the next morning enjoy the ride
en people
ee you driving down
he
treet to your weigh off. you will
derstand when it
appens. lol
and i should have said, number one thing
u always say first,
nobody
ouch the stem!" and someone still will and it
ll snap off and you
ill be
pissed, then laugh it off after you
ttle down. save the stem and
ut
t on
the pumpkin at the weigh
f. it still counts. lol. been there done
hat.

nloading is easier
th the planks of wood used again to slide it
lowly
own with your
fting crew.
