I have finally brought a pumpkin into September without rotting on the vine, it is not very big, but it is something I can use to display for Halloween. If I can keep it that long. My question is, how should I harvest it and what should I do to keep it undamaged until the end of October?
Thanks, any advice is appreciated. Jeff Potter----- Original Message ----- From: "Billy Bob" <mastrpumkn@aol.com>

That said, unless you are growing to hit the really, really big ones, it probably won't make a significant difference. Also, if you do in fact lose a vine later in the year, having that second one will be well worth it. If the soil is well amended and you keep tertiary vines to a minimum you will probably do fine. I suggest keep the main vines away from each other so that when the pumpkin does set, it has a clear area to grow. I havetwo mounds with one vine eachgrowing. Historically, each mound will befully covered by it's singlevine by the end of September. What damagewould I cause by planting asecond vine about 10 feet from the first one andletting it share thesame mound? I'm trying to hedge my bet of losing avine in the future.Any thoughts on this? - End of pumpkins DIGEST V1#793******************************--------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing archives: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/ To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS --------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing archives: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/ To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS --------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing archives: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/ To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS
