What about Gypsum??

Greetings from Pumpkins of New Zealand.

Does anybody have any advise on using gypsum to alleviate clay soils. 
I suspect the gypsum raises PH and I know it loosens up the soil 
particles in clay and improves drainage. Are there any harmful effects 
of gypsum on AG's?
