The same thing happened to me a week or so ago. I mixed up a Captan & water
paste to the consistency of pancake mix, and poured it into the crack.
Added cotton-batting soaked in the same stuff, sprayed more all around, and
protected everything with fiberglass insulation. I'm hoping that will stop
rotting.
For good measure I plastered $10 worth of duct tape around the half of the
pumpkin with the crack in hopes of stopping it from getting bigger.
So far so good.
