OUR CROP,NWGP Question AND JACK LA RUE

Hi to all!!!

I haven't participated on the list for quite sometime but I have continued
to read all of your messages. All of you continue to be one of the most
sharing group of people that I have found. You are to be commended for this
great virtue.

Our gourd crop this year weathered the storm--a poor Spring and unexpected
family crises.

About our crop:
I had purchased 4 packets of the giant bushel gourd seeds but the yield
was zero except for one lonely plant. Unfortunately, that plant developed a
case of the Mosaic Virus. That plant got pulled in a real big hurry.

My best gourd yield was from seeds purchased from a little ole lady in
Ohio. $7.00 and I had a field full of gourds. The seeds were not "true"
seeds but the germination rate was outstanding. They gourds popped up
within a weeks time and the plant yield had to be close to 95%. True seeds
or not, the seeds that I ordered were the gourds that have developed. We
will have at least as many gourds as we had last year(~200) and I think of
better quality. The postings that you all make help me tremendously with my
gourd crop.

October 4th is my birthday. Hubby is going to take me to the NWGP Weigh per
my request. Last year we were in the hospital making plans for open heart
surgery for hubby. That is where we learned the news of the winning giant
pumpkin. Hubby is recovering very well. This year will be a better birthday
:-)

We are really getting excited about attending because we do not plan long
trips. Hubby tires and I must be getting old too. We will leave at 4:00 A.M
in order to be at Carnation in time for the weigh-ins. I will finally get
to meet a lot of you wonderful people. My only regret is that I have
nothing to enter ~sniff~ ;-(
There is also not a category for gourds. A gourd is not a squash. GOURDS
ARE GREEN. Better than a squash. I'll admit not as great as a giant pumpkin
~chuckle~
Sorry Jack, couldn't help myself on this little pun!!!

Now for my question:

I will bring a camera and take lots of pictures of the event. I plan to
make a web page about the event. Who do I contact to obtain permission to
include the NWGP logo to my page? Do they have a email address?

A few weeks back, Jack LaRue was in town and called me up. Imagine my
surprise when I heard on the other end of the phone, "This is Jack LaRue".
I nearly fell off my chair. We talked for an hour and a half about giant
pumpkins and gourds. It was great!!! Jack could talk about giant pumpkins
as fast as I could talk about gourds. LOVED IT!!!! Jack is as nuts about
giant pumpkins as I am about gourds. Sharing and Quality NUMBER ONE.
Fantastic phone call from a giant pumpkin grower.

During this long phone session, hubby fetched me a pen and paper so that I
could write down information that Jack LaRue shared. Talk about a GREAT
husband and a GREAT Giant Pumpkin Grower!!!! How could one be so blessed?

I'll end this message and give you all a rest. Marvin, thanks for your
support and keep us posted on your bread. Chris Andersen in Moraga, Calif.
Thanks for your kind words and visits to my web site. Tony--have a beer for
me and keep those poems coming. Wayne are you going to have another giant
pumpkin boat this year? and Jack, we are looking forward to meeting you and
Snooks :-)
It's going to be a great and fun weekend!!!!!!!

Wishing all of you pumpkin growers the best of luck next weekend. You are a
great group of people.
