well, since everyone is writing poems today, here's my version.
ahemmmmmmmmmm:
567.5 mombert, and zehr's 804,
howard dill crossed them, two years before.
on may the 8th, i planted my seed,
plenty of water, and sunlight they'd need.
Pollinated "Jozee" on ju-ly the 12th,
a fifteenhundred pounder, would bring me much wealth.
Squash vine borers, had their own plan,
tried to ruin my crop, make me an unhappy man.
Sprayed and fertilized, at least once a week,
still had borers, and havoc they did reek.
with a razorblade in hand, and surgical gloves on,
took care of the borers, killed evey one.
the plant lived on, and did not cry.
sixhundredtwelve pounds by the end of august,
not bad for my first try.
a world record specimen was not in the cards,
next year i'll apply lots of manure,
at least a million yards.
October third, the day is drawing near,
who will be the pumpkin king or queen.
this year? ....
