It is true that chemicals can be absorbed through the leaves, otherwise
systemic herbicides that are foliar applied wouldn't work. Foliar feeding does
work somewhat, but it will never beat a massive root and tap root system. Of
all the things you can do to grow a bigger pumpkin, the most important is
probably spending more time getting your soil in good shape before
planting...preparing the entire area.
