The Independent Weigh-Off in Canby, Oregon has become a reality, and
will be held Sat. October 10th at the Hoffman Family Farm. The farm is a
vegetable and fruit stand that also puts on a big Harvest Halloween
Festival every year. The farm is located in Canby, about 5 miles off of
I-5, is looking forward to hosting a weigh-off and getting the whole
community involved. There are plans to have shuttle buses go from
downtown out to the farm. The PNWGPG would like to thank the Hoffman's
for helping create an exciting new event with very generous prize money.
The terms were agreed to in a March 28th meeting with Joel, Mari Lou,
Jack, Kirk, Lincoln, Brett, Bob Hoffman, and daughter Julie.
Weigh-off will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday October 10 1998 at The
Hoffman Dairy Garden Farm in Canby, Oregon, 6815 S. Knights Bridge Rd.
97013, Phone 509-266-4703. Signs will be posted from the freeway into
the sight . See map. The Hoffmans are sponsoring the weigh-off. They
have a farm and the retail produce stand where the weigh-off will be
held. The site is an old dairy, and the produce stand is in a huge old
dairy barn. Last October they had a huge haunted house inside part of
the old dairy barn, a Halloween dance, a hay maze and just a general
Halloween theme for the entire month of October. They are hoping to make
this October even bigger, starting off with the pumpkin weigh-off on Oct
10. They are planning on having a live radio broadcast of a garden talk
show from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, food booths, live music, wine tasting and
a number of other events before, during and after the weigh-off.
