Subject: Harvesting Pumpkins

Can someone please tell me how I am supposed to know when the time is
right to harvest my pumpkins.  I have a very small pumpkin patch with
about seven pumpkins.  They were all planted the same time but the
pumpkins are in various sizes right now.  Some are starting to turn
orange but others are dark green.  I have one yellow pumpkin which has
been yellow from the start.  I don't want to pick them before they are
ready but I'm not sure when that is.  I also have to be concerned about
frost at night.  I cover them but if there is no benefit in keeping them
on the vine I will pick them now.  I don't think they are growing any
bigger.
