Thank you to all who had great suggestions on how to deal with voles and mice.
Much to my surprize it was a pocket gopher! He's not with us any more. After tunneling under the big pumpkin and examining with a mirror I am happy to say that he didn't get up inside..
What will be next in this patch of horrors? shellie
