A self polinated pumpkin will have more genetic varience (a weakened
strain) than a pumpkin crossed with a different variety. The best crosses
for stability are from grand father to grand child.....this will stabalize
(make repeatable) the plants characteristics.

: I would want to have a strain the is reasonably free of the genetic
: problems that cause pumpkin loss. I would want it to be self-pollinated
to
: reduce first generation variability. Instead of 2 or 3 seeds/100 with
good
: traits, self-pollination could give you 30 - 50/100. I would like to
have
: them from the largest wt. pumpkin that grew for 75-90 days on the vine.
: This would cut down on any problems of immature seeds. Have fun. Roger
