The self pollination method is used to establish pure lines of seed
genetics. After 6or7 self pollination the line is usally pure. If you
have used a inferior weaken strain thats what you get. I'm using a strain
that has all the aspects of what we need for large pumpkins. When they
took the corn plant back, they bred recessive to recessive until they had a
pure dwarf strain. I'm going the opposite way with my pumpkins, hopefully.
I think the crosspollination is creating a large number of seeds that are
going to be average. Roger
