Seed Survey

Hi all, I was going to save this for after the weigh-offs but then I
thought maybe it would be better if people are thinking about this one
while looking at all the big pumkins other people have grown that aren't
on this list. Most of us know of the great success of certain seed
stocks such as the 827 Holland, 567.5 Mombert, and 697 Ciliberto at
producing large offspring. Well those seeds are as rare as hens teeth
and it is unlikely that any of us could obtain one to grow. What I'd
like to know is what seed stocks are going to replace them? What will
be the hot seed that some of us will have to plant from 96 or 97 that we
held onto? What seed would you like to get ahold of based on the
success you have had with it. It looks like we may already have a few
votes for the 815 Anderson 97 from Rocky and others that have grown it.
Please keep your eyes open at the weigh offs for the parentage of the
large pumpkins you see there and check back in and let us know which
ones look like winners. If they've made it to the weigh off then we
know they didn't split, how about ones with no dill rings, good color
and shape, or those that weigh heavy for thier measured size. I know
the most available seed will be from this years big ones, but it would
be nice to know if we have one stored away in the fridge that comes from
a pumpkin that is capable of producing a 900 or 1000 pounder. Take
notes and keep your eyes open folks. Think about what seed you would
plant if you could only get one. I think this could make for a lively
off season discussion and seed swap this winter.
