help..soft spots
This is my 1st year growing pumpkins..I planted 6 seeds late in June and have
huge vines about 20ft long..The leaves are so large you could use them as
umbrella's..I sprayed with sevin to control the cucumber beetles, cut the
secondary vines and fertilized with Miracle Grow..I now have 6 pumpkins
growing ranging in size from one and a half feet in diameter to about 3
inches in diameter..They are all sort of a yellow color..I put hay rings
under the bigger ones to prevent them from sitting on the lawn..I noticed
that a couple of them have developed soft spots which are lighter in color
than the rest of the pumpkin..Are the soft spots rot?..Some of the pumpkins
are very shiny yellow and some are dull..I need to know what I should do now
to get the pumpkins to grow large as fast as possible..It is already the
middle of Sept and I live in NJ so I don,t have much more time..
This pumpkin growing experiance is terrific..The kids (and adults) really get
a kick out of it..Thanks to all in this group for the advice you gave us..
Best Regards
Kirk
