RE: help..soft spots

It could be anthracnose, dark oily or pink gelatinous spots. Black
pinpoint spots at stem end; blossum blight. Rounds spots coated with
cotton' stem rot. Bumpy and mottled; mosiac virus. Sunken, circular
spots; scab. Develop green or dark brown circles; black rot. You have to
also look at your leaves and stem of all your plants, they also tell the
story of what disease you have which could be caused by weather or insects
or virus. By the time you find a specific virus the ones I mentioned above
it is usually to late to correct the process. After the end of the season
destroy all your plants out of the garden. I have one of my plants go down
with mosiac virus with 2 pumpkins on it one won't make it and the other one
still looks in good health only because it is in the mature stage. Next
year start a spray program of insectisides like carbyral and disease
program like daconil mix to directions and spray every 7 days or after
rainfall will help tremendously.
And read everything you can on diseases and insects that attack pumpkins to
get an understanding on how to prevent this from happening..

Subject:	help..soft spots

This is my 1st year growing pumpkins..I planted 6 seeds late in June and
have
huge vines about 20ft long..The leaves are so large you could use them as
umbrella's..I sprayed with sevin to control the cucumber beetles, cut the
secondary vines and fertilized with Miracle Grow..I now have 6 pumpkins
growing ranging in size from one and a half feet in diameter to about 3
inches in diameter..They are all sort of a yellow color..I put hay rings
under the bigger ones to prevent them from sitting on the lawn..I noticed
that a couple of them have developed soft spots which are lighter in color
than the rest of the pumpkin..Are the soft spots rot?..Some of the pumpkins
are very shiny yellow and some are dull..I need to know what I should do
now
to get the pumpkins to grow large as fast as possible..It is already the
middle of Sept and I live in NJ so I don,t have much more time..
This pumpkin growing experiance is terrific..The kids (and adults) really
get
a kick out of it..Thanks to all in this group for the advice you gave us..
Best Regards
Kirk
