They will be back, they love pumpkins. You might try getting one of those motion
activated two light fixtures, put a bulb in one side and screw in a plug in
adapter in the other and plug a radio turned on and volume up all the way up.
When they get close to the pumpkins they will both go on and hopefully keep
them run off till the pumpkins mature.
Deer are smart and will adapt over time to being around people and noise when
I was logging they would stand 50-100 feet away from us with a D-8 Cat working,
calmly munching the moss from the logs we had just turned over.
You might also try spreading bloodmeal pellets around they will sometimes work
pretty well but need to be replaced after rain or repeated heavy dew or getting
wet watering.
