Can anyone tell me where I might find a site that has the official rules
for weighoffs run by the GPC? I talked to the coordinator of the weighoff
in Neekoosa, WI and was given very vague rules of no holes, soft spots, or
splits.
I currently have one in the patch at 370#'s (estimated) that I have been
trying to keep from rotting on the stem. Today I noticed that the area
around the stem looks like it is starting to crack. It does not appear to
go into the pumpkin cavity, but would this be enough to disqualify me from
a weigh off?
One last question. Is stem rot an inherent trait in some pumpkins? This
is my second pumpkin over 300# on a 739 Welty that has had rotting on the
stem. Just curious if it's the pumpkin or something that I am doing wrong.

To be disqualified at a GPC site the hole must go into the seed cavity.

Jim:
who keep's the pumpkin, wouldn't it remove all personal involvement,
it would prove the truth, not what someone thinks, that's what's wrong with
most of the sports today, watch boxing or any other sport that involves
persons,
Let's go one step further, scales only, give all a fair chance. At the
amount
of money being given out today. I'am sure any honest contesent would be only
to glad to let his or hers pumpkin be cut open to prove they are honest.
Bragging
rights and seed sales will surly cover letting the pumpkin rot at home.
Let's
keep this hobby above self gain.
Yours truly;

Gang,
I have been an official at Topsfield for a few years. Nobody will allow
you to cut their pumpkin apart to determine if a crack goes through. The
grower gets the benefit of the doubt if the crack does not expose the seed
cavity. Any captan paste or plugs must be removed prior to inspection by the
judges. If a tiny hole or crack is suspect, a slender probing device may be
GENTLY inserted to see if the hole goes through to the interior. We are not
talking about applying pressure or jabbing anyones pumpkin with a needle.
There are non invasive ways to determine if water has been added to a
pumpkin
for purposes of cheating. Anyone who is an official at a site can e-mail me
privately and I will explain the techniques. Very simple and effective.
