Bear is back!!
My unwelcome visitor returned thursday night and not
finding any more ripe mellons, rolled over the smaller
(thank goodness it picked that one) of my two AGs. While
it's not a big pumpkin by AG standards, the bear managed to
roll over a 90 lb pumpkin and tear out six or seven feet of
vine out of the ground using one paw. The scratch marks on
the skin showed the outside claw spread of 5 1/2 inches.
The canine marks where he tried a bite of AG were about 2
inches apart. He didn't eat any of the pumpkin, but left a
very bad split in the stem, along with the uprooted stem,
I'd say this pumpkin is through for the year. I guess I'll
be out there every night untill the weigh off on the 9th.
