This Saturday I weighed my first mature pumpkin. In my first year of
growing I used a 747 wyckoff (636.5 Wyckoff 97 x 801 Stelts 97) to get a 250
llb (UOW) (99 63 66=228OTT estimated at 256 llbs)Sanchez. The pumpkin was
weighed on a scale at a fruit packing house and was transported with the
reynolds lifting tarp which was awesome. My dad and I did the lifting by
ourselves without too much trouble. The pumpkin was grown in an area that
got sun at about 9 to 10 in the morning to 4 to 5 at night. The ground was
not dug up well, maybe a foot down. The fruit is a nice shape and deep
orange with virtually no ribs. The pumpkin was pollinated on 6-12 and
picked on 9-25. I figure that the low weight was due to a concave bottom
that felt and sounded very thin. To anyone wondering, I feel this 747
wycoff seed is a great seed. I have another pumpkin in the yard with much
better prepared soil and more sun which is at over 400 llbs right now. This
is not to bad due to the temps being at about 100 degrees daily for the
first two weeks of pumpkin growth, with temps only dipping down to the high
90's and occationally the low 90's and high 80's for a few days.
