AFRICAN VIOLETS

In May 1999 I planted 2 leaf cuttings in peat blocks made for that purpose. During rhe next 10 months these leaves maintained a perfectly healthy appearance [never withered]and in fact the smaller one grew; I presume they had rooted but there was no sign of a shoot.  At the beginning April 2000 I put them under a UV lamp prolonging daylight by 5 hours. On the sixth day one of the cuttings was throwing up a new leaf--and at the end of the second week the other leaf had started joined in the fun .    It seems that a specific wave length improved the health of the leaves
Has anybody investigated the effect of UV light on cuttings in general?      Donald
