For some of the smaller and longer to germinate seeds-columbines come to mind-
I sow them directly in very shallow containers, cover them with plastic wrap
and set them on the top of the fridge. Transplanting has to tke place as soon
as they have a true set of leaves as the containers are too shallow for
much bigger growth and I also prefer to grow in a cooler environment.
