As I understand it, Paulownia is a much valued timber tree,
particularly in the orient.

I have a single tree here in Milwaukee, well into Zone 5. I have
never noticed any winterkill of the branches, only the flowerbuds.
Our coldest this past winter was not even -10F, so perhaps I will see
blooms this spring. I have not heard anything about Paulownia being
short-lived. In commercial production, they are harvested after
10-12 years and regrown from the stump.
