Re: pre-soaking seeds

I do not know if it is of interest to the group, but I am
wondering what you are meaning by small plastic test tube like things or
where they might be obtained. I have started wanting to try test tubes
for seed germination, but I have lost touch with the supplier, and
other's prices are beyond my reach. I'm also less enthusiastic about
using breakble containers. I've considered sections of clear soda straws
but they're pretty narrow. I am
considering this method because I find germinating on towels difficult
and will have no further faith in it, unless I can properly utilize
"capillary" action to keep the towels moist. They have been drying out
even when sealed in plastic bags.
I am wondering if setting seed evenly on a dry towel then
letting it absorb warm water may not be part of what might be most
suitable to you. Alternately, I have sprayed very
warm water on seed flats when I first sow them in hopes of getting the
flat temperature more toward seventy without heating cables, if only
temporarily. Coming out of the sprayer seems to cool the water quite a
bit, but this might very well give a good part of the benefits of a warm
pre-soak, if you compensate for cooling.
I wish all seeds were like those morning glories which actually
sprout as they float on about the third day soaking. Try one or two and
see!
