R: Seeds germination requirement "wild fires"..

Geranium bohemicum, a blue flowered biennal species which also grows,
though very scarce, in conifers woods on Italian Alps (Alto Adige), seems
to require
wild fires for germination. Peter Yeo says that in the Cambridge Botanic
Garden (UK) they light small bonfires at G. bohemicum site to help
germination, which is sporadic otherwise ( the book is ' Hardy Geraniums'
by
P.F.Yeo, Christopher Helm/Timber Press, 1985).
I have never been able to get germination from 'normal' seeds in the past.
Last spring I received from HPS some seeds that looked like lightly
'roasted' on their outer surface, and finally I have got a plant which is
now producing buds.

I hope this helps.
