Re: Latin and Common Names


Hang in there, Latin names grow on your like moss on a rock pretty
quick, just from repetition. Many people end up using them because some
times there "are no" common names, or they are quite unpronouncable
unless you're fluent in Chinese.

The best reason to use them, though, is that they are standardized the
world over and can help you have more assurance of exactly what it is
you are paying good money for, and Latins names are often much easier to
look up.

Besides the good books that were mentioned n this thread, some of the
larger plant data bases have some common names and are good references
for this too.
