The best of all worlds would be to use common and botanical names. However,
common names are not of much value. The same plant is called by many common
names depending on which part of the country (or even which country!) you
reside in. But, the botanical name is always the same. Whether a person is
a beginner or an advanced horticulturist the most important task is to begin
learning the botanical names then there is no question as to which plant is
being discussed. Just my 2 cents worth. Joe. San Diego County.
