Hi Roger
I have heard of this chopping up and apparently being successful. Why not
chop up half and separate the rest! I also believe not all spore
germinates at the one time, this may be the reason for the chopping up
being successful.
My success rate with spore varies a lot. One year it was 25%, pretty poor.
At the moment it is around 80% to prothallis stage. This depends on the
collector.
I do not use heat and the tropical species still germinate in winter, but
not very quickly whereas the temperate species do not germinate in the
summer. Where are you located?
It is nice t have comments with another spore grower, there are not too
many around. I sowed 80 species 15 weeks ago and have now accumulated
another 40 since. I am running out of room with the other 400 or so
already sown!!
For those watching it appears Roger has mastered the biggest problem. The
light factor. I tried for 5 years to get it right and in the end it was
almost a fluke.
Adiantum venustum spore appears to be hard to get. The biggest one I have
is 4 inches high and has fertile pinnules, 1 inch wide already.
It will be worth waiting for.
Kindest regards
Keith
