when is the best time to sow? I have noticed babes under the mother plant,

Ginny,
I recently had a conversation with a grower of helleborus. He stated that the
seed pods explode when they are ripe and that his biggest problem was catching
the seeds so that he could control where they germinate. Try using a old
nylon slipped over the ripening pods so that you can catch the seeds when they
open, then sow right away.
