Yucca Division

Hi all,
I recently was asked by a friend to dig up a very large clump of
Yucca plant (no idea if it is anything but a basic species... I
really know very little about the Yucca plant in general except for
what it looks like and how it grows <G>)
Question: Can anybody tell me how this plant is best divided. It has
very large woody main roots with very few secondary roots or root
hairs from what I can see. Should I just start cutting all the little
"crowns" apart and sticking them in potting soil? Will it grow from
just pieces of the root since there are huge chunks of the roots that
broke off as I was digging it up. ? Can one expect it to sprout new
plants from any root pieces that were still in the ground after we
decided to call it quits (we didn't want to have to borrow a Bobcat
to dig the rest of it out :-) )?
It seems like there are alot of potential new plants from this one
clump if it is just cut up and plant technique. Thanks for any advice
you have.
