Asexual propagation of hosta

A friend of mine "thinks" he may have propagated one of his hosta by
sticking a leaf blade in some sandy soil. He thinks this because he found
a small plant where he remembers sticking a broken off leaf into the soil.

Aside from several other questions here, can hosta be asexually propagated
by rooting a leaf? The reference I have on hosta by Paul Aden(?) only
addresses tissue culture and taking of offsets as means of asexual
propagation. Any comments?
