flower seed harvesting

Coreen-you've asked a big question on that number 1 item. Naturally
I'll try number 2.

It's difficult to know the exact moisture content of your seeds. All
seeds need a good postharvest drying time, at least one week. A dry seed
is not going to rebound it's shape when bending it.
The book in front of me recommends a gentle heat(90*F(32*C), like that
off a light bulb to aide in the process.
Most flower seeds need only winnowing-pouring seeds from one container
to another in a stiff breeze or in fron of a fan-blows
off light weight chaff. Sreening through a piece of mesh will seperate
the courser stuff.
Silica gel is a possibility. Whaty ever drying method your'e
subsequent care; i.e. temperature, moisture, pests and diseases, and
storage container, will all be critical to your'e success.
I borrowed this book from the library, "THE NEW SEED-STARTER
HANDBOOK" by Nancy Bubel/Rodale 1988.
