Poppy seeds - temps v/s light

I started some Papaver orientale 'Pizzicato' last year around this time
from seed and they wintered over after planting out nicely and bloomed
very well this year. Last year I didn't get very good germination. This
was most likely caused by the seeds being too warm. The T&M package
suggests 55°F and mine were 70-75°.

Does anyone have a clever way to provide 55-60° temps and decent light
at this time of the year? If not, which is more important, the light or
low temperatures. I've had good luck with keeping delphinium seed at
60°F by putting it in front of the air conditioner vent but they don't
need light to germinate.

Also, I could only find mixed seed and I wondered if I could winter
over the poppies in a cold frame in 1-gallon containers? I would very
much like to wait until they bloom to set them out as I would like the
colors to be grouped.

I was also a little curious if other people on the list are starting
seed this time of the year and if so, what kind?
