I have about 15 different varities of Brugmansia. The biggest question you
should be asking is how to get rid of the aphids, spider mites, etc. that
attack this plant when you finally bring it indoors. My plants are huge.
Every fall I cut them back to stubs. Literally! Unpot them. Root prune them
to fit into smaller pots. Treat the potting soil with a all purpose systemic
grandular pesticide. Grow them throughout the winter, with falling leaves all
winter.
With all my trying to get rid of pest, they always manage to show up with
aphids or spider mites along about Jan. or Feb. I then reapply the systemic
grandular pesticide and that seems to hold them over until I replant them in
24" pots outside in the spring. My Brug's are currently about 5 feet tall on
some varieites and some others are over 8 feet tall. This treatment has
worked for me for the last 4 years.
