Re: Brugmansia Help

Hi
I have had Brugmansia for some years. Here in Sweden we have to bring these
species indoors during winter. I use to follow this scheme:
Diminish watering during october, almost nothing in november. Prune. Bring to
basement (in my house 4-10°C), light is good, and continue with only little
water. Many leafs will develope. In March bring to cold greenhouse, and prune to
shape if necessary (almost always). Start watering gradually, protect from frost
with electric heater (thermostat +4°C), use shadow screens first 2-4 weeks. Use
fertilizer with enough of Phosphor, to stimulate flower instead of leafs. Bring
to sunny but not too windy side of garden. Give some fertilizer every 2-3 week.
Use big pots, Ø50 - 60 cm, more cylindric than cone-shaped, or put in the
ground.
In March I use to cut pieces of stemparts about 20 - 30 cm in length and maximum
5-6 cm width, put the cuttings 10-15 cm deep in pots of 20-25 cm width, with
"ordinary well drained garden soil".
Sometimes no flower first year.
For preserving colour, I cover 1 o 2 flowers with mosqito-net, pollinate with a
brush, and use only these seeds.
At most some of mine have reached 2 meters, but since I must cut them back
before bringing them inside, what is the point?
I hope some of my experience is useful for You.
