Hi Pat,
I don't know that this is the proper way to scarify a seed but I use a
Dremel tool. It has worked very well for me. Sometimes it is difficult to
hold a small seed to use sandpaper to rough it up and sometimes the seed shell
is too hard to get through. If you have a lot of seeds, the Dremel tool is
much faster too. I sand only until a bit of the white embryo shows, then soak
the seeds for 24 hours before planting.
