Re: datura questions

I have a sort of passion for the daturas, but I have to admit it would be a difficult proposition to guesstimate the species names for these. Datura taxonomy is pretty confused anyway.

I would hazard a very tentative suggestion that the first might be Datura stramonium 'tatula', called Datura tatula by some. The second I would not care to guess at, though D. innoxia (=D. wrighti??) is a very commonly cultivated datura in a number of colors which are often sold without a spp name. There are also a few individuals out there still referring to Brugsmanias as "tree-datura", but I'm making the assumption that you knew that.

I love pictures of daturas, so if you get the notion to put up a picture somewhere where we can take a look at it, maybe someone can take a better crack at the species names for you. If you lack a server space to upload a picture to, I can probably help with that. If you lack a scanner, many film developing places now will do scanning, as will photo-copy outlets such as "Kinkos". I would also be willing to scan a photo for you.

Thanks for flying,
