Re: fuchsia

Hi, Allen. I have had great success starting F. boliviana 'Alba' from seed and
I'm trying other varieties this year. I just take the ripe fruit (if in doubt
about ripeness, wait until it falls off the plant) and squish then smear it onto
paper-I used the back of used white paper from my inkjet printer- trying to
remove the skin and as much watery pulp as possible. Seed is tiny, brown and
hard like strawberry seed. Let this dry on the paper. When it is dry, the seed
can then be scraped off the paper and scattered on your sterile medium of
choice. Since the seed was so small, I put a layer of small turkey grit over the
mix, sprinkled the seed over the grit and watered in and set it in a flat with a
clear plastic cover in the shade in the greenhouse. Germination took about 14
days.
