Re: Romneya

Diana: Yes, it is necessary. It even says so in my old Sunset book. I've
never grown them from seed so I can't give you any particulars. I have done
them in Feb. from root cuttings with some success - 50%. Pete Ray at Puget
Garden Resources, Vashon Island, has done this fire thing but finds
propagating from root cutting is the better method. I supply my customers
at the garden center I work at with his plants that are usually ready late
spring or early summer. This is an expensive, difficult perennial to get
established in our area. I have his address and phone number at work and
will send it to you. He propagates lots of weird, neat perennials &
annuals, is VERY knowledgable and willing to share. I've also bought in
seedlings from a company in Calif. but they are ready in Feb. and since my
greenhouse isn't heated it's a difficult transition for them. I go to work
tomarrow and will try to remember to get Pete's address then. Carolyn
