Regrigerator top

Now that's it's time to be starting some seeds and I'm casting about for
warm spots to place my flats of seeds I want to germinate....I have a question.
I've read, time and again, that the top of the refrigerator is a good
place to put your trays as it's warm and warms the soil for the seeds.
BUT when I put my hand on the top of my refrig it feels COLD to me.
What's up with that?
