Angelika,
It's worth noting that seeds rarely damp off when sown outside. Simply
having air movement greatly reduces the problem, and in greenhouse
conditions, installing a fan to move air over seed benches can help.
In your mild climate, many perennials at least, might as well be started
outdoors. Just cover with window screening to keep rain from splashing
the seed around.
