Hens & Chicks seeds - how to germinate

My neighbor has given me seeds (dried flowers and pods) of a plant from her
back yard here in z 5 OH.  She calls it "Hens & Chicks", so I assume it is
some kind of sempervivum.  I crushed some material and looked at it with a
big magnifying glass and saw what appear to be seeds, indeed.  Now what do
I do to have the best chance of getting these to germinate ? Will usual
sterile non-soil medium do ?
