Re: Vermiculite (was: Perlite vs. vermiculite)

What size is turkey grit? I've been using #1 size specified for
baby chicks and then there's the #2 size for adult chickens. Should
the size of the seed or container have anything to do with the size grit
we purchase?
I've been using grit for my outside seed projects. The wind that
blew down Pacific Northwest forests in December, 1995 also scattered my
fall seed projects everywhere. Now a thick layer of grit protects the
seedlings.
But is the grit sterile enough for inside use? Perlite and
vermiculite we know are sterile. Has anyone else seen green on the top
of the grit used outside?
Best, Vicki
