A beautiful thing. Looks like a large, heart shaped plum. The color is
light green with tracings of "scales". The flesh is an unusual custard
consistency with an appealing slight graininess. Large seeds are scattered
throughout the flesh.
As for the flavor, it's hard to classify. A banana-strawberry sort of
thing with a distinct rum flavor. I'm totally addicted to the things. I
used to buy them in L.A. and paid dearly for them. They're fairly common
in Berlin because they're grown in the Mediterranean; I'd buy at least one
daily at a fruit stand in one of the train stations.
I believe the tree is originally native to Peru.
I tried to grow it from seed but had no luck. Maybe I didn't wait long
enough since it took you 3 months. Or the fruit I got my seed from was
picked too green.
Anyway, congratulations! Keep us informed on it's growth, whatever it is!
Keith
