I had no particular difficulty in germinating the seeds from the one fruit
that I was able to find here in Wisconsin.  They are probably less common
here than elsewhere.

However, many of you might be interested to know that our native paw-paw,
Asimina triloba (not to be confused with the papaya, sometimes also
referred to as a paw-paw) can be grown in most regions of the US and is
supposed to have a similar flavor.  I have two in my garden here in
Milwaukee that are close to bearing size.  The one caveat is that if you
plan to grow this, you should buy named, grafted varieties, since the
quality of the fruit grown from seed is highly variable.
