I'm not sure how much help this'll be - but I've had good success direct
sowing them where they are to flower. I put them out pretty early,
a week or two before the last frost. Stokes catalogue, which often has more
than one wants to know says:
Home Grower:Sow small seed heads 1/4 to 1/2 inch (6-13mm) deep.
Cover seed lightly and firm with soil. Seeds should germinate in 2 weeks
(my note: This whas what I did. Some colours seemed to take longer to
germinate. I did pretreat the starting mix with No-Damp. They flowered in
July).
Greenhouse growers: Sow Mar. 15th at 75F/24C *soil* temp for 12 days. maintain
air temp. of 75F/24C during the day and 60F/16C at night for about 2 weeks
after germination. Transplant into paks 5 weeks after seeding. Grow at 55F/
13C to prevent soft spindly growth. Plants should be ready for sale 10-12
weeks
from sowing, and bloom in July from a Mar. sowing.
hope that helps,
ivy
